ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – The 28th Bomb Wing plans on installing a bird abatement system to limit flight hazards and the danger to local wildlife. The system has been installed at Air Force bases across the country and is used to disperse wildlife who pose a risk to flight operations.

Testing of this new system will begin Oct. 8. Residents near Ellsworth Air Force Base may hear the “cannon-like” system as testing commences.

The 28th Bomb Wing released a statement saying, “Precautions will be taken to minimize noise impact to communities surrounding the base.”
