Ellsworth Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responds to WWI active mortar in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Ellsworth Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was called over the weekend after a World War I active mortar shell was found in a Sioux Falls home.

According to 1st Lt. Joshua Sinclair of the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, the two-person team responded Sunday to dispose of the ordnance.

Police responded Saturday to the 100 block of North Grange Avenue in central Sioux Falls after a report of an explosive found in a home.

The explosive was later found to be active and disposed of.
