Ellsworth Development Authority receives $200k grant

BOX ELDER S.D. – A large grant from Elevate Rapid City will help round out the annual budget for Ellsworth Air Force Base’s economic powerhouse.

Elevate Rapid City has invested $200,000 in the Ellsworth Development Authority. The Ellsworth group is designed to spur economic growth in and around the base.

The contribution matches an annual contribution from the State of South Dakota.

According to Patrick Burchill, the chairman for the Ellsworth Development Authority, the money will be used for the remainder of the organization’s $600,000 annual budget.

“A lot of it is to get things back on the tax roll because the Air Force has given us property, excess property, then we develop,” said Burchill. “Six-hundred thousand is not really a lot of money but we do a lot with it.”

The Ellsworth authority will collect the remainder of their budget from their own assets.

Burchill also said potentially testing the B-21 at Ellsworth could bring thousands of people to the Black Hills, pouring in millions to the local economy.
