Ellsworth B-1B Lancer conducts joint training with Japan Air Self-Defense Force

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – A B-1B Lancer from Ellsworth Air Force Base has just completed a 30-hour round-trip sortie to Japan.

The bomber integrated with Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force, and the 35th Fighting Wing at Misawa Air Base. The purpose of the exercise was to conduct bilateral and theater familiarization training.

The B-1B from Ellsworth teamed up with six US F-16 Fighting Falcons and 15 Japanese aircraft.

As part of the joint United States Indo-Pacific Command/US Strategic Command Bomber Task Force mission, before flying home to western South Dakota.

This is the second bilateral training to occur this year with Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force.
