Ellsworth Air Force Ball celebrates organization’s 71st birthday

Service members with the 28th Bomb Wing from Ellsworth Air Force Base dressed to impress their ranking officers and significant others on Saturday night.

Ellsworth held their 2018 Air Force Ball at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center where airmen could socialize, relax, and mingle with their comrades. The 28th and other detachments put on their best licks for the ball, which celebrates the Air Force’s 71st birthday and honors their military lineage.

Technically, the Air Force’s birthday is on Sept. 18, but base leaders chose to hold the festivities on Saturday instead. Lacroix Hall C at the Civic Center was filled to the brim with airmen sharing deployment stories.

Lt. Col. Lewis Taylor said that the annual ball aims to bring people of the branch together, and to have a fun time.

“It’s an opportunity for people to come together and to really celebrate the accomplishments we’ve had as an Air Force since our founding,” said Taylor. “It’s an opportunity for people to come together and to kind of rub elbows a little bit, and enjoy each other’s company on this special night.”
