Ellsworth AFB Spouses collect cookies for the holidays

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Spouses at Ellsworth Air Force Base are making sure no airman or woman is forgotten during the holidays.

The Team Ellsworth Spouses Club braced the cold and held their annual cookie drive on Sunday in front of Sam’s Club in Rapid City. During the drive, they collect cookies then deliver them to airmen who are getting ready to move to another base and might not get off of Ellsworth as much or may not have family around for the holidays.

According to Team Ellsworth Spouses Club President Chelsey Mastalski, the drive is a way to spread holiday cheer and create community on base.

“If they don’t have family around them, the Air Force is their family, so the point is just trying to help them out and bring them a little more Christmas spirit,” Mastalski said.

The annual cookie drive brings in around 4,000-6,000 cookies. This year, they collected around 10,000. On Monday, the club met at the community center on base to bag up the cookies and deliver them to the airmen.

Over the past three years, the club has given away $30,000 in scholarships to military dependents.
