Ellsworth adds more acts to 2022 Air Show lineup

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. — We’re 78 days out from the 2022 Ellsworth Air and Space Show, and officials within the community are starting to put the final touches on what the event will look like.

Base officials say they are working on traffic flow and parking details for the estimated 60,000 attendees. Gates are expected to open at 9 a.m. each day, May 14 and 15, with activities and demonstrations beginning around 11 a.m.

“I’m proud to announce that we have secured the F-22 Raptor demonstration team from Air Combat Command,” says Lt. Col. Anthony Nishimura, the Ellsworth Air Show Director.

Events will be taking place statewide in the lead-up to the Air Show to commemorate anniversaries like the Doolittle Raid and General Ellsworth.

“We’re going to be flying a B-25 across the state of South Dakota, calling it ‘Raid-22,’ and that is going to stop at six different cities across the state of South Dakota, landing on the tarmac and hosting events for the local people…kids to come out and learn about the history of the B-25,” says Todd Walhof, co-chair of the Black Hills Military Advisory Commission Air Show Committee.

Base officials will continue to provide updates on the shows events as we get closer to May.
