Elks Theatre to host outdoor adventure Reel Rock Film Festival
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Reel Rock Film Festival will be happening at the Elks Theatre Friday night. The festival is a community event that’s drawn a growing number of outdoor enthusiasts from around the Hills since it started in 2012.
The festival involves a showing of “Reel Rock 13,” a critically-acclaimed outdoor adventure film collection featuring cutting-edge footage of climbing and outdoor expeditions around the world. The series has won several Emmys in the past for its visual quality and artistic design.
The event is put on by the Black Hills Climber’s Coalition, and proceeds go to trail maintenance, trash cleanups, and keeping local climbing areas safe. It’s sponsored by Granite Sports and Sylvan Rocks Climbing School and Guide Service, who will be giving away prizes at a raffle before the show. Raffle tickets are $10. Along with smaller prizes, there will be the chance to win a $1,500 value prize.
Mark Rafferty, president of the Black Hills Climber’s Coalition, says, “Year after year, we are seeing a growth in the climbing community here in the Black Hills. And this event is a way that, not only climbers, but outdoor advocates can come together, watch, and support what climbing is doing in our community.”
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9.
