East river areas experiencing heavy flooding, asked to limit water usage

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — While the Black Hills area has been hit with heavy snowfall and strong winds, the east river portion of the state is experiencing severe flooding.

Melting snow and ice, along with heavy rainfall, has put Yankton partially underwater, with roads turned into fast-moving rivers carrying debris through town.

A number of motorists became stranded on Wednesday after trying to drive through the conditions.

Additionally, the city has issued a warning to Sioux Falls residents to limit their water usage through Friday due to potential strain on the wastewater plant from all the flooding.

To make matters worse, rainfall is expected to turn into heavy snowfall during the day tomorrow.
