East Main Street Bridge to receive overhaul

RAPID CITY, SD — The East Main Street bridge in Rapid City is getting an overhaul, with the state paying for most of it.

A grant from the state will pay as much as 80% of the cost, up to a half-million dollars.

The bridge connects Saint Joseph Street to Lacrosse Street near the School of Mines and the Central States Fairgrounds.

“It’s not like this bridge is any critical condition,” said Dale Tech, Rapid City Public Works director,  “The load rating hasn’t been reduced so its certainly safe to drive over and will be until the time its rehabbed,”

Construction is slated to begin in 2021.
