Eagle Butte man sentenced for setting school building on fire

PIERRE, S.D. — An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to six years in prison for arson. He’s also been ordered to pay $572,506.50 in restitution.

Shane Taken Alive, 28, was indicted in 2017 after he got into an argument with another individual before walking to the school in Takini, South Dakota, where he broke a window to get inside.

He then set fire to one of the school buildings.

Taken Alive pleaded guilty to his charges in March of 2019.

This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Taken Alive was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
