Driver arrested for DUI in Pennington County Jail parking garage

A driver, accused of driving impaired, was arrested after pulling into a secured parking area behind a member of the RCPD.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Law enforcement is investigating an alleged DUI incident that occurred near the Pennington County Jail on Wednesday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., an officer that was pulling into the jail off of Saint Joseph Street saw a vehicle pull behind him in the secured garage area.

According to the Rapid City Police Department, the vehicle narrowly made it through the secured parking area before the security gate closed.

The officer saw the vehicle had extensive front end damage. The driver of the vehicle got out of the car and said that he needed help with the damage to his vehicle.

Police say they immediately noticed the driver’s slurred speech and the smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person.

The driver was identified as 19-year-old Jyles Salomon of Allen. Following a DUI investigation, Salomon was placed under arrest for DUI. He was then walked to the jail.
