Dress a President in winter apparel: helping those in need

RAPID CITY, S.D. – It’s that time again, winter clothing items can now be placed on the presidential statues in downtown Rapid City. It’s an early start Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

According to Housing for the Homeless there were over 1,000 homeless people in Rapid City in 2018 and in 2019 just a little under 1,000. Hats, gloves, scarves, coats and just about any winter item can be placed on the statues for those who need a means of staying warm this winter.

“We know it fulfills a great need, we encourage groups during the winter months and the winter season to be mindful of that. It’s a great way for the youth to be involved, a great way for the churches and organizations to be involved as well,” said city communications coordinator Darrell Shoemaker.

You can put winter apparel on the statues from now until March 15th.
