Two teens arrested — BB gun places Douglas Middle School on secure status

UPDATE (3:22 p.m.) — According to spokesperson for the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Helene Duhamel — two 13-year-olds have been arrested in connection to the secure status earlier at Douglas Middle School.

UPDATE (1:20 p.m.) — Pennington County Sheriff’s Office announced that this morning they were notified of a possible student with a weapon at Douglas Middle School. At 10:48 a.m. all Douglas schools were placed on secure status.

The Pennington County Sheriff located a BB gun and the secure status was lifted at 11:34 a.m.

BOX ELDER, S.D. — The entire Douglas School District was placed on Secure Status at 10:48 a.m. on Wednesday according to a post on the Douglas School District Facebook page, due to a possible threat at Douglas Middle School.

As of 11:34 a.m., the Secure Status was lifted after law enforcement ascertained they had the threat located and all involved in custody.

The Box Elder Police Department is confident there is no longer a safety concern and school will resume as normal.

In their Facebook update, the Douglas School District reminded parents that they take safety very seriously and will always follow recommendations of law enforcement. They also expressed their appreciation for the quick response of law enforcement and the understanding of families of students.
