RAPID CITY, SD —  Doctors in Rapid City and Spearfish are offering free skin cancer screenings today as part of American Academy of Dermatology Melanoma Monday event.
Experts say one in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer in their lifetime, but when it’s detected early melanoma is treatable.

The best defense against skin cancer is being cautious about long exposure to the sun. “Everybody should be wearing sunscreen.” says Tandis Hoffman PA-C, of Regional Health Dermatology, “There are skin types that are more prone to developing a skin cancer such as melanoma, but it doesn’t matter what skin type you are you should be wearing sunscreen”.

People can visit the Community Health Center of the Black Hills in Rapid from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. In Spearfish people can visit Regional Health Dermatology from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
