Diving demos held far from the shore in SD

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City isn’t exactly the first spot that comes to mind for diving, but the sport is alive and well with the help of Pactola and some getaways.

Black Hills Aquatic AdventuresBlack Hills Aquatic Adventures held demos of the Ocean Reef with full face masks at the Roosevelt Swim Center on February 27. They normally hold diving classes for anyone who wants to get into the sport and obtain a certification from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday afternoons.

There are also “Bubble Nights” on the last Saturday of each month, where certified divers are able to practice their skills.

“Our world is covered by 70% of water and we haven’t even tapped into the beauty really,” says James Wallace, Owner of Black Hills Aquatic Adventures. “And when you learn how to scuba dive, you actually do get to see all of the beauty and everything, the creatures and all that are down there. It’s amazing.”

Divers take trips to Pactola and Florida yearly to enjoy what nature has to offer below the surface.
