Diversion program offers resources for clearing warrants at LNI

RAPID CITY, S.D. — During this week’s Lakota Nation Invitational, one group at the Civic Center has been offering resources for clearing arrest warrants.

Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Diversion Program works to dismiss charges for individuals who complete their program.

At no cost, people can complete community service, training and education, job shadowing, or counseling — and the state will clear their record.

The organization has helped 1,100 people.

“A person has to be sincere and genuine, and wanting these changes,” said Erik Bringswhite, Community Outreach Coordinator. “Ans we see these young people that are impacted by a mistake they made at a young age that resonates throughout adulthood.”

Programs are available for all ages, and includes drug diversion for meth and heroin charges.

Lifting charges is a case-by-case basis.
