Department of Agriculture looking at new beef labeling standards
WASHINGTON, D. C. — Congressman Dusty Johnson is applauding the U.S. Department of Agriculture for saying its looking at new safety and inspection labeling standards for beef.
“At this time, beef that’s not raised or slaughtered in the United States, can still be labeled “product of the U.S.A,” Representative Dusty Johnson said.
During a hearing this week of the House Agriculture Committee, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue said his department is exploring new “slaughtered and processed in the U.S.A.” labeling.
Beef products processed and packaged outside of the U.S. would not be eligible for the new label.
