Delta Dental mobile unit serves kids of Sturgis Elementary School

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Delta Dental’s mobile program rolled into Sturgis Elementary School to brighten a few smiles.

The mobile program serves more than 6,200 children.

These clinics provide exams, cleanings, cavity fillings and preventive services for students who don’t have a dentist, and haven’t seen one in more than two years; all free of charge.

Mobile Truck Coordinator Dane Haggen says dental well-being is not only important for a child’s overall health, but could affect how they perform in school.

“If a kid had been in pain for a long time with a toothache or whatever the circumstance it is can affect, you know, how the kid behaves. You know, obviously if you’re in pain you’re not going to be the best behaved,” said Haggen.

Delta Dental’s mobile dental clinic will be at Sturgis Elementary through Friday. Parents who’d like to schedule their child are asked to contact the school nurse.
