Decorating for Christmas is a joy for Rapid City woman, putting up 25 trees in all
Jan begins decorating for Christmas on November 1. It’s a labor of love; enhancing her home is part of her favorite time of year.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Jan Czywczynski’s home is nestled in the Black Hills, she gets in the holiday spirit each year, for the past 15 years, decorating her home in great detail.
Jan says, “I enjoy it, and I guess I look forward to Christmas, to the decorating part of it, I mean we live out in the boondocks, but to me my family and myself get to enjoy it.”
Each piece of décor carefully crafted in place.
25 trees make up the festive atmosphere with tables, ledges and walls all adorned with her special touch.
The stockings are hung with care.
Some pieces have special meaning, handed down by her mother.
And each tree with it’s own unique adornments. Some on revolving tree stands. The ‘gold tree’ is her favorite.
The preparation begins in November, just after the Halloween décor comes down, and yes, she does like to enhance her house for each holiday – with Christmas being her favorite.
It takes about six weeks to completely set up with hours of time involved. Much if it done by herself, it’s a labor of love; enhancing her home is part of her favorite time of year, she says, “Decorating and watching the kids open the presents would be my favorite.”
Jan has a growing family to accommodate – with six children, 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren – there is a lot of celebrating to be had.
She has a special storage shed just for the Christmas decorations and does admit it feels kind of bare when the trees are gone in the New Year.
Christmas just wouldn’t be the same in the Czywczynski household without the enhancements to celebrate the holiday spirit.
Her family also enjoys baking, cooking a holiday dinner and playing cards together to celebrate the holiday.
