Deadwood sports betting indicators look positive
DEADWOOD, S.D. — In the first six weeks since sports betting began in Deadwood, the early indicators look positive.
Voters approved sports betting in the city last November, and it became law in July.
After working out licensing and casinos installing equipment, the first sports bets were laid down in early September.
The Executive Director of the Deadwood Gaming Association Mike Rodman says four establishments now offer sports wagering.
Those operators say they’re seeing good returns with more out-of-towners coming to press their luck.
Rodman says more casinos plan to capitalize on sports wagering in the near future.
“There’s been some equipment delays that we’re dealing with for some properties and we have some that are still waiting to get their sports wagering services providers licensed. And so as soon as we can get them licensed we can get more properties opened,” said Rodman.
Rodman says they’ll have a better idea on how Deadwood is faring with sports betting when the official numbers come out in two weeks.
