Deadwood sees increasing numbers for January overall gaming handle

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Deadwood gaming had another monthly increase in January. Last month’s overall gaming handle is up 6.75 percent over January of 2021.

Deadwood GamingSlots were also up almost seven percent. And while the table game handle fell around six percent, officials are still feeling good about them compared to last year’s huge increase

Taxable adjusted gross revenues in January totaled $9.9 million, with sports wagering alone bringing in more than $835,000.

“Part of the reason we had the in crease in January on our sports wagering is we expanded our catalog and were able to prop bets and in-game bets starting the first of the year,” Deadwood Gaming Association Executive Director Mike Rodman said. “So, that obviously is paying off for us and that’s what we saw.”

The totals for the next couple months, however, are expected to build greatly on the city’s success.

“From sports wagering’s perspective, we’re just going to continue to build each month,” Rodman added. “With February and the Super Bowl, then going into March with March Madness. So we’re real excited to see what’s going to happen as we move forward. But overall, Deadwood continues to grow and gaming continues to look very positive as we move forward here in 2022.”
