DEADWOOD, S.D. – Deadwood History’s Chinese New Year Party will be held at the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The workshop is suggested for students in grades K-6. The program is free but reservations are required.

Children are invited to discover how Chinese New Year is celebrated and why this holiday is important in Chinese culture and to Deadwood history.  They will learn what the Year of the Rabbit means for 2023 and the traditions that make Chinese New Year so unique. Students will play games and create a Chinese-themed rabbit lantern to take home. The workshop will also include a Chinese-style lunch and a red envelope ceremony.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, Deadwood History, Adams-Mastrovich Family Foundation, Edith Wong and Beatrice Wong, and Jade Palace.

Call Tia Stenson, Deadwood History Archivist, at 605-722-4800 for reservations or more information.
