Custer says ‘thank you’ during annual Veterans Day Program

CUSTER, S.D. – It was a major and heartfelt “thank you” to veterans from Custer students and scouts.

Custer schools celebrated local vets during the 24th annual Veterans Day Program Monday.

Following a presentation of colors and the national anthem, elementary, middle and high school choirs sang patriotic songs. Student council members read poems to the vets, and Cub Scouts handed roses to the ex-service members.

The guest speaker was Secretary of South Dakota Veterans Affairs Larry Zimmerman, who stressed the importance of learning from veterans.

“I think the students need to know that people have fought for their freedoms, and a ‘Thank you for your service’ goes a long ways and means a million bucks to any veteran when they get it from anyone.”

A video production class also showed a presentation commemorating local veterans who have passed away since last year.
