Custer man identified in fatal crash south of Pringle

UPDATE (5/3/21 @ 1:50 p.m.): A Custer man has been identified as the victim in last Wednesday’s fatal crash south of Pringle.

67-year-old John Karlowitsch Jr. was driving southbound on Hwy. 89 when his pickup went off the roadway and rolled. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

PRINGLE, S.D. – A 67-year-old man died Wednesday night in a one-vehicle crash south of Pringle.

Preliminary information indicates that a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup was southbound on Hwy. 89 around 8 p.m. when the driver lost control, went off the roadway, and rolled.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the pickup and pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the person involved has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
