Crews search for missing hunter near Deerfield Lake

Pennington County, S.D. – Teams from several area agencies are searching for a missing and endangered hunter near Deerfield Lake.

The Pennington County sheriff’s office says 66-year-old Larry Genzlinger, from Howard, South Dakota, was elk hunting with his nephew in the area of Six Mile Road and Ditch Creek Road.

He was last seen around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Genzlinger is a white male with brown eyes, gray hair and gray beard. He is 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and pants and a black Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation baseball cap.

Genzingler is considered endangered, in part, because he has congestive heart failure as well as diabetes. He has been without food or insulin for more than 24 hours.

Authorities say the family contacted law enforcement about 7:30 p.m. last night.

Pennington County Search and Rescue and a number of other agencies worked through the night until 4:00 a.m. Wednesday. The search resumed again at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Crews say fog and rain have not allowed aerial support in this search.

If you have any information as to the whereabouts of Larry Genzlinger, please call the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office or your local law enforcement agency.
