The Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a report of the fire at around 11 p.m. Upon arriving, they observed free burning flames at the home and immediately struck a second alarm.

The number of alarms generally indicates the severity of a fire, and the need for more fire crews to contain it.

Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to other structures, but the home itself suffered extensive damage.

Road and weather conditions also hampered response and suppression efforts.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire has not been released.
