Crews fight fire at Rapid City Municipal Landfill

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Fire crews are working to contain a small fire at the Rapid City Municipal Landfill that is producing substantial amounts of smoke.

According to a Facebook post from the Rapid City Municipal Government, The call came in shortly after 10:00 a.m. Monday, with crews from the Rapid City Fire Department responding.

The fire appears to be confined to a large cardboard debris pile, which caused the fire extinguisher system in the facility to be engaged.

Solid Waste crews are assisting fire department crews in hauling the debris piles outside of the facility, spreading out the materials to be doused. No injuries are reported.

The landfill remains open as fire and solid waste crews continue their work. Drivers are advised to use caution and follow directional signs entering and exiting the Landfill.
