Crews battle wildfire near Piedmont


PIEDMONT, S.D. — Firefighting crews from Pennington and Meade Counties are battling a wildfire Tuesday morning in the 2100 block of Ricard Road in Meade County near Piedmont.

According to a Facebook post from the Pennington County Fire Service, the fire was called in early Tuesday morning and spread to 8 acres before being halted.

Threats to structures and infrastructure are being mitigated, and the fire is not expected to spread or escape initial control lines at this time.
Pennington & Meade County Based Fire Departments along with Summerset Police Department, Meade County Sheriff’s Office, West River Electrical Cooperative, Black Hawk Fire Corp, Pennington County 911 and Meade County Dispatch are assisting.
