COVID-19 numbers jump again East River, one addition in Oglala Lakota County

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota COVID-19 cases continue to spike East River while West River reports one new case Wednesday morning.

According to the state Department of Health’s website, Minnehaha County has 63 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, accounting for a majority of the new cases. Since Tuesday, the state reports 73 new positive coronavirus test results.

West River, Oglala Lakota County reports their first coronavirus patient – an educator at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Porcupine. 

The state now reports a total of 393 positive tests and 6,355 negative tests.

Also making a leap Wednesday is the number of people who have recovered from the coronavirus. Forty-eight additional South Dakotans have since recovered since Tuesday, bringing the total to 146.

All patients in Pennington County have recovered from the virus and eight of the nine patients in Lawrence County have recovered. In Fall River and Meade Counties, the sole patient in each county has recovered.
