Construction on 2nd floor of Care Campus underway

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Construction on the second floor of the Pennington County Care Campus officially began . The project got final approval from the County Commission last month.

“This will be developed into residential treatment living areas for people who are apart of the residential treatment program, so they’re actually going through some treatment process within the facility and this will be the areas where they’re living while they are a part of that program,” said Mike Kuhl, the Director of Pennington County Building and Grounds.

Some additional parking spaces will be added for the additional staff members that will be coming along with this new part of the building. Construction on the second floor is expected to be completed by mid-October of this year. the $2.2 million needed to fund this project was donated by a generous citizen over the past two years.

This new facility opened it’s doors back in September of 2018 in the old National American University Campus. It combines social services such as detox, mental health treatment, and crisis care all under one roof.

The Care Campus is located across from the Public Safety Building on Kansas City Street in Rapid City.  The goal of the campus is to solve long-term problems, like homelessness and substance abuse in the community.
