Construction coming to Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Expect traffic delays and road detours this upcoming Monday. The City of Rapid City is doing construction on East Saint Patrick Street.

Detours will be set up from Monday morning through Saturday evening. This project has been in the works for some time and funded by the city’s railroad company.

Darrell Shoemaker, the communications coordinator of Rapid City, says “it will be a full reconstruction of the railroad tracks.”

The next railroad renovation project will likely be on New York Street and will take place in about a year.

The reason the city is holding off on the next project is the weather. The surface temperature of the asphalt needs to be 40 degrees or higher. If the surface temperature is below 40 degrees. the road will crack.
