Community members propose possible name change to Founders Park in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Council President Laura Armstrong proposed a change be made to Founders Park, during Thursday’s Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, in hopes of inclusivity to all members of the community.

A possible change would be the name. Instead of Founders Park, a suggestion was to name it Ancestors Park.

Armstrong says she is open to any suggestions and is encouraging anyone with comments to make them known.

“I want one-hundred percent involvement,” Armstrong said. “If you have a comment, if you have a suggestion that’s positive and constructive we want your feedback. We want this to be a community project.”

Committee did not approve the proposal for a name change at the meeting, but instead tabled it for further discussion.
