Commissioners designate first week of May as ‘Pennington County Corrections Week’

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The critical work of Corrections Officers generally goes unseen by those of us on the outside, but not unappreciated.

The Pennington County Commission kicked off its meeting Tuesday by recognizing some of the men and women who work at the County’s correctional facilities. The commission also proclaimed this as Pennington County Corrections Week, to show its appreciation for all the hard work the officers do.

“We’re always here, we’re always working, we’re always ready to go and we’re very humbled and thankful for the recognition that we’re getting today,” said Adam Byrd, a Field Training Officer.

After a reading of the proclamation, the commissioners extended a hearty handshake to the correctional officers, followed by plenty of hand sanitizer.
