College Football: Hardrockers sting the Yellow Jackets

Jake Sullivan passed for 260 yards and five touchdowns.

RAPID CITY, S.D.  –  The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology squared off against Black Hills State University  Saturday night for the 133rd time in college football. In fact, it’s one of the longest running rivalry series in Division II.

The Mines Hardrockers lead the all-time series, but the BHSU Yellow Jackets won the Homestake Trophy last year with a come-from-behind victory.

But this year was a different story.

South Dakota Mines jumped out a 21-7 lead after the first quarter and went to beat Black Hills State, 62-14.

Jake Sullivan threw for 260 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Rockers.

Meanwhile, Connor Silveria rushed for 227 yards and two scores.

Black Hills State quarterback Ryan Hommel returned to action and threw for 153 yards and a touchdown.

South Dakota Mines will host Adams State University on Saturday, Oct. 13 while Black Hills State will entertain New Mexico Highlands. Both games kick off at 1 p.m.
