College Football: BHSU falls to Colorado Mesa in home opener

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University opened the college football season on Oct. 10 with a disappointing loss to South Dakota Mines.

The Yellow Jackets returned to Lyle Hare Stadium on Saturday for their home opener against Colorado Mesa.      

The Mavericks dominated the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 56-7.

Black Hills State scored first, as Chance Eben found Hasaan Williams in the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown.

But Colorado Mesa answered with a 72-yard touchdown run by Jesse Rodriquez.

Overall, the Mavericks rushed for 392 yards and finished with 549 yards of total offense.

The Yellow Jackets hit the road on Oct. 24 for a game against Chadron State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
