Black Hill State men's basketball team falls to Colorado Mesa

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines hosted Westminster College on Friday in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.

Men’s Basketball

SD Mines 71, Westminster 68

The South Dakota Mines men’s basketball team rallied in the second half to beat Westminster, 71-68.

The Griffins led 31-23 at halftime.

But the Hardrockers outscored the Griffins 48-37 in the second half.

South Dakota Mines had five players score in double figures. Kolten Mortensen led the way with 17 points followed by Brevin Walter with 16 points.

Alejandro Rama finished with 14 points and Kolton Frugoli and Keagen Smith each scored 12 points.

The Hardrockers improve to 6-10 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Women’s Basketball

SD Mines 70, Westminster 69

The South Dakota Mines women’s basketball team upset Westminster on Friday, 70-69.

The Griffins came out in the second half on a 10-2 run to go up by 10 points, 37-27.

But the Hardrockers battled back in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

The Rockers were led by Piper Bauer and Bailey Johnson who each finished with 15 points.

Plus, Savea Mansfield and Megan Alexander each added 10 points a piece.

South Dakota Mines is now 3-13 overall and 3-7 in the RMAC.

The Hardrockers will host Colorado Mesa on Saturday in a doubleheader starting with the women’s game at 4 p.m.
