COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Black Hills State men and women sweep SD Mines
MBB: Yellow Jackets edge Hardrockers in OT
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology tipped off Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Saturday night by hosting Black Hills State University in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader.
On the women’s side, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Hardrockers 43-18 in the second half to win 70-43.
Morgan Ham led Black Hills State with a double-double, 20 points and 11 rebounds. Katie Messler scored 12 points and Lyndzi Rich added 10.
Sami Steffeck paced the Hardrockers with 10 points.
South Dakota Mines falls to 2-2 while Black Hills State improves to 5-0 for the second straight season.
The Hardrockers will look to bounce back as they host Dixie State on Dec. 7.
Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets welcome Westminster on December 7, before playing Dixie State on Dec. 8.
Black Hills State 57, SD Mines 56 OT
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men’s basketball team opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 57-56 win over South Dakota Mines.
Black Hills State trailed by three points with less than 10 seconds left in regulation. But Dez Stoudamire scored a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.
In overtime, Logan Elers scored with nine seconds remaining to give the Hardrockers a one-point lead.
However, Tyler Oliver ran the floor and scored a layup just before the buzzer sounded to secure the win for BHSU.
Oliver finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Mitchell Sueker had 19 points to lead the Hardrockers.
South Dakota Mines will entertain Dixie State on Dec. 7, while Black Hills State will take on Westminster followed by Dixie State on Dec. 8.
