College Basketball: BHSU men and women sweep SD Mines
SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State men’s and women’s basketball teams tipped off the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season on Tuesday night by hosting their rivals, the South Dakota School of Mines.
The Lady Yellow Jackets rallied to beat the Lady Hardrockers 55-47, while the Black Hills State men escaped with a four point win over South Dakota Mines, 70-66.
Black Hills State 55, SD Mines 47
Morgan Ham scored 18 points and Racquel Wientjes added 11, as Black Hills State rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the South Dakota School of Mines, 55-47.
The Hardrockers led 42-34 midway through the fourth quarter. But the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-3 run down the stretch to earn the win.
Anna Haugen recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 18 rebounds. However, the Hardrockers were led by Ryan Weiss with 14 points.
Black Hills State improves to 4-2 and South Dakota Mines falls to 1-3.
Both the Yellow Jackets and Hardrockers will travel to Utah on Dec. 6-7 to play Westminster College and Dixie State.
Black Hills State 70, SD Mines 66
The Black Hills State men’s basketball team opened conference play on Tuesday night with a 70-66 win over the South Dakota School of Mines.
The Yellow Jackets shot 53 percent from the field, while the Hardrockers finished the game shooting 43 percent.
Black Hills State had four player finish in double figures.
Tyler Oliver led the way with 21 points followed by Stefan Desnica with 17, Trey Whitley with 15 and Joel Scott finished with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Sueker paced the Hardrockers with 17 points.
Black Hills State is now 2-3 on the season. The School of Mines falls to 2-4.
The Hardrockers return to action on Friday, Nov. 29 at home against Presentation College from Aberdeen.
The Yellow Jackets will entertain Dakota State on Monday, Dec. 2.
