“Coats for Kids” Seeking Sponsors to buy new winter coats for youths

RAPID CITY, S.D. – On Saturday, January 9, Meadowood Lanes hosted the 8th Annual Knights of Columbus Coats For Kids Bowling Tournament.

The yearly fundraiser uses all proceeds to buy new winter coats for kids at the Black Hills Children’s Home Society.

The non-profit has been hit hard by the pandemic, sponsorships are down about a third this year compared to last year.  Organizers say they hope bowlers and non-bowlers alike will come out to the lanes to have fun and support youth who have very little to call their own.

“A lot of the kids, it would be their first new coat that they’ve ever had and so they’re really excited when they get something they can call their own after being taken out of their home environment with little or no notice,” said Chairman of Knights if Columbus Council #8025, John Schlim.

Last year’s proceeds from the tournament allowed the Knights of Columbus to buy and distribute 156 brand new coats. This year they are hoping to match or even surpass that number.
