Closing Ceremony for 81st Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
The closing ceremony included a motorcycle jump over Main Street in Sturgis.
STURGIS, S.D. – The 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally held it’s closing ceremony on Saturday.
Back in 2011, the city held a make-shift opening ceremony and it was later decided to have a closing ceremony as well. Daredevil, Cole Freeman, jumped Main Street in Sturgis as a part of the closing ceremony. The mark for next year’s 82nd rally was also unveiled. This year being the first one that the rally had it’s own logo was monumental for the City.
“When the see that winged-s as we refer to it, we want them to think that’s the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. I mean it may take some time, but I believe we made a huge impact this year with al these visitors and with this being the first year but yeah it means Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and it means the city owns it and it’s going back to the city and the community and that’s what it’s all about,” said Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen.
In past years, they’ve had to use other peoples’ and it’s a big deal that they now have their own and are on the way to building their own brand..
