Class AA Boys: Stevens, Central boys advance to state basketball tournament
RAPID CITY, S.D. – After a disappointing eighth place finish last year at the State ‘AA’ Boys Basketball Tournament, the Rapid City Stevens Raiders were hoping for another chance this year to win a state title.
The Raiders moved one step closer to accomplishing that goal, as they knocked off Harrisburg on Saturday in the SoDak 1, 74-49.
Stevens jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Blake Weaver led the Raiders with 25 points followed by Daniel Vigoren with 18 points and Mason Steele with 16 points.
The Raiders, who improve to 15-6 on the season, will open the State AA Tournament on Thursday, March 19 against Sioux Falls Washington at 6 p.m. in Sioux Falls.
RC Central 52, SF Lincoln 48
Meanwhile, the Rapid City Central boys upset Sioux Falls Lincoln 52-48 to earn a berth in the State AA Tournament.
Micah Swallow scored with 4.9 seconds remaining to put the Cobblers ahead by two.
Then Central sealed the deal with a pair of free throws.
Micah Swallow led all scorers with 20 points.
The Cobblers will square off against top seed Yankton in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
