City pools preparing to open next week

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Depending on mother nature, the City’s outdoor pools are set to open for the summer next week.

“With schools getting out for the summer, it’s time for the pools to open up,” said Doug Lowe, manager of the City’s Recreation Division. “We are completing training of our lifeguards and pool staff and expect a great summer.”

For the first time this year, the city will allow early entry for swimmers that have passes. The outdoor pools are open from noon to 6 p.m. daily but those with passes can gain early entrance at 11:30 a.m.

The opening dates include:

  •             Roosevelt Swim Center’s 50-meter pool: Wednesday, May 29
  •             Parkview Pool: Thursday, May 30
  •             Horace Mann Pool: Friday, May 31
  •             Sioux Park’s Jimmy Hilton Pool: Saturday, June 8

In addition, the Roosevelt Swim Center’s indoor pools will begin open swim hours at 1 p.m. daily beginning Monday, May 27.

There are also a number of swim lesson programs, trainings and special events at the pool facilities. Check online for the 2019 Summer Program Guide at rcgov.org or call the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department at 394-4175 or the Rapid City Swim Center at 394-5223 for details.
