City offices closed for Veterans Day observance

RAPID CITY, S.D. — In observance of Veterans Day, city offices will be closed Thursday, November 11.

Veterans Day special events include a program featuring speakers and refreshments at Main Street Square from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the annual Veterans Day Parade downtown at 11 a.m., starting at VFW Post 1273 on Main Street.

The annual holiday luncheon will follow the parade at the VFW post home.

Most city services will also be suspended for the day.

The administrative offices of both the Rapid City Fire Department and Rapid City Police Department will be closed Thursday with normal shift operations in place.

The Rapid City Landfill will be closed Thursday, so Tuesday’s regular trash and recycling collection will take place Monday, leave out until collected, with Wednesday’s collection on Tuesday, leave out until collected.  Thursday’s collection is scheduled for Wednesday, leave out until collected. There will be no changes to Monday and Friday collections next week.

Rapid Transit Service’s RapidRide and Dial-A-Ride services will not be operating Veterans Day.

The Monument’s box office and administrative office will be open beginning at noon on Veterans Day due to scheduled activities in the facility.

The Rapid City Airport will be open Thursday, however administrative offices will be closed, so travelers should check with the airlines for arrival/departure information.

The Roosevelt Swim Center will be open normal hours Thursday with land group fitness, water group fitness and swim lessons operating as scheduled. The Roosevelt Park Ice Arena will also be open.
