City of Sturgis offering safe public transportation for the rally

STURGIS, S.D. — The 80th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is just a little over a week away, which means there will be an influx in people and a higher demand for transportation.

Like in years prior, Sturgis Transit and Da Bus will offer transportation across town to various campgrounds and also to Spearfish and Deadwood. Campgrounds also provide transportation to prevent drinking and driving. There are also the normal taxi services provided throughout the city year-round.

Da Bus is taking extra precautions this year with protective shields separating the bus driver from the public. They have also ordered 15 fogging machines to clean the buses after every route.

With the city offering numerous transportation options for the public is a good alternative to keep people from drinking and driving during the rally.

Christina Steele, Public Information Officer for the City of Sturgis said, “We really don’t want people out drinking and driving, so Da Bus is a great option. People have a lot of fun with Da Bus and they’re very busy. They have several buses that usually run. And people are real familiar with that. So people should just make plans ahead. If you want to come up and drink that’s fine, but just make sure you have a safe ride home.”

No Uber or Lyft drivers have registered with the city to get a licenses to operate during the rally, but there will be a couple of pedicabs to transport people around town.
