City of Box Elder urging residents to restrict excessive water use due to well issue

BOX ELDER, S.D. — Water problems came to fruition in Box Elder as the city is urging residents to restrict excessive water use because of a mechanical issue with a well.

The city says the motor died on Well #4, which provides water to hundreds of residents. Ellsworth Air Force Base is not included in the Well-four zone.

“Our issues aren’t currently so much a water issue as far as quantity, but it is a pressure issue,” said Doug Curry, the Public Works Director of Box Elder.

The city is asking residents to refrain from using sprinklers, filling up pools, or washing cars for the time being. They expect the issue to be resolved by the end of the week.
