City of Box Elder celebrates Patriot Day in honor of its airmen

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The City of Box Elder celebrated Patriot Day on Saturday. Kicking the morning off with a drive-by parade with cars decked out in patriotic decorations.

For the past three years the city has hosted a weekend where they honor those that serve at Ellsworth AFB, but this year it looked a bit different.

While the city is still hosting a car show, fireworks, and live music, they added a drive-by parade.

Due to the coronavirus, airmen can’t dine out or go to certain public places, but the parade allows airmen and their families to participate in the fun from a distance.

You know they do so much for us, they put their lives on the line day-in and day-out and they’re gone at a moments notice and it’s just nice to recognize them,” say Box Elder Mayor Larry Larson.

The night concludes with a firework show once the sun goes down.
