City in need of seasonal lifeguards

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Summer is approaching and Rapid City has seasonal jobs available.

One of the most sought after summer jobs is lifeguard. Their pay starts at $11.40 an hour and can increase if they become swim instructors.

According to Recreational Specialist Emily Carstensen, “The biggest one we’re looking for right now, we’re looking for lifeguards. We’re about 18 to 20 short for our season and then we’re also in desperate need of part-time maintenance employees for our pools and ice arena.”

Applicants must be certified with the American Red Cross.

Roosevelt Swim Center offers the lifeguard certification class, which takes one weekend to complete.

You need to be at least 15 years of age to take the class and then apply.

You can learn more about applying online for the city’s seasonal openings here. For more information about lifeguard positions, contact Emily Carstensen at 394-5223. For seasonal parks positions, contact the Parks Division at 394-4175.
