City Council votes to return to committee format

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Monday night, the Rapid City Common Council voted to return to the committee format effective September 14.

On Wednesday, July 28, the council had a lengthy discussion on whether to move away from the current working session, as the format can go on too long for members with full time jobs.

Public Works Committee meetings will be held on Tuesdays prior to Council meetings while Legal and Finance Committee meetings will be conducted on Wednesdays before council sessions. Both meetings will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The working session format was approved by the Council on a trial basis last fall in an effort to promote more efficient discussion and dialogue between Council members and City department staff.

Two Council working sessions are still scheduled for August 11 and September 1, and committee member assignments will be determined in advance of the first meetings.
