Black Hills Toys for Tots brought its 2018 season to a close with a toy distribution event. The event was held at the Central States Fair’s Fine Arts Building in Rapid City.

Organizers said that 741 families registered to receive toys for their children. Each child received a toy, a book, a stocking stuffer, and a stuffed animal. More than 100 volunteers helped out this year. They distributed about 10,000 toys.

Volunteers and coordinators said that charities like Toys for Tots fill an important need in the community.

“It’s a great feeling because there was one year where they did not have this program, and I think our community really is in need of this type of thing,” said MaryAnne Whittle, Pennington County Toys for Tots coordinator. “It’s just nice to be able to give back to the community.”

If you are interested in donating or volunteering with Toys for Tots in 2019, information is available on their website.
